Traffic surfaces are assigned according to wear and the different construction categories; excluding cycle tracks and paths. The allocation of the construction categories is directed by the demand of 10-t axle transition and the road type.
Large size paving stones and concrete slabs are basically suitable for surfaces with traffic according to the construction categories III, IV, V and VI to (guideline for standard road surfaces). However, large sizes should not be used on public thoroughfares with high dynamic demands. This applies also to roadways of main thoroughfares and industrial streets as well as surfaces with comparable demands. For example by public bus thoroughfares if the frequency is more than 75 buses per day and lane. On these public thoroughfares the allowed speed should not exceed 30km/H
Special demands originate from heavy traffic with track-moving traffic and narrow curves, with slow moving traffic, with frequent brake and acceleration processes, in cross roads and junction areas as well as with stationary or stop-and-go traffic.
In these cases it should be checked and taken into to account whether there are special demands with a choice of the construction method and building materials, as well as their composition and production of single layers of the superstructure.
